DAY 1: EXPLORERS

This week is the real start of the Summer Learning Journey Week 1. We made a DLO which shows 10 different foods we would take if we were on the Voyage. We made sure that there were foods which are dried and can't be but inside of a fridge because they don't have fridges and stuff that keep food from getting off and wasted on a Voyage. This was a really hard and interesting DLO because we had to try and think of foods that can't be inside of a fridge, that can be made easily and are also nice and yum at the same time.

  1. Hi Avalon!,
A great start on your SLJ activities.I like how you have explained what you did for this activity. You have a good layout and explained why you would take each of these items on your voyage. I would also take canned foods, as it doesn't have to be refrigerated.
    Awesome Work!

  2. Kia ora Avalon,

My name is Mani and I am going to be joining you on the Summer Learning Journey as a blog commenter. I am so excited that you are joining us for the Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020. Have you done this programme before?

This year I am so excited that I get to read over the Manaiakalani blogs, especially because I have been to your school and met you and your class! I am really looking forward to summer, aren't you?

In my spare time I like spending time with my family and hanging out with my friends. I also love to exercise and write songs in my spare time. What are you looking forward to doing this summer?

I am super impressed with the slides that you created for your ‘Exploring the world’ activity! I really liked how you not only listed the food items but you also provided reasons as to why you chose them and added an image. Well done for adding attributions for your images too!

I look forward to reading more of your blog posts over the next few weeks! Enjoy your last week at school and happy blogging :)

    Nga mihi,
    Mani

  4. Hey Avalon! This is an amazing start to the Summer Learning Journey, I'm glad you'll be participating in another year of the programme. You've created a great presentation on 10 items you would take on a voyage, it's simple but effective. I loved the explanation you had for each item, but I think canned or dried food would be the best to take. Did you enjoy this first activity? Awesome job!

  5. Hi Avalon,
I liked how you said that you'd take a lot of nuts, fruit and dried and preserved items. I also liked how you said that you needed to think hard for things that wouldn't need to be in a fridge, and be prepared easily. If you could take even more items, what else would you want to bring?
