Activity 2: Celebrating Diversity

Today l was doing activity day 4 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this i was to become more familiar with some of these amazing indigenous communities. How i did this was picking out of the 5 different links they gave learn about the 5 different groups, countries and ancestors so that i could learn about them before i even made a DLO. After i finished reading these i was to tell you the names of the two groups that you have chose and then tell you at least two interesting facts about each group that i found out. I decided to do the Mayan people because l have never heard of them and they really looked interesting to learn about. Also l chose the Ainu People because they also looked very interesting to learn about cause i hardly know that much about them. I enjoyed this activity because l could found about new countries and place i have never heard of before.

  1. Kia ora Avalon!

First of all I am loving the way you set up your slides!

I have never heard of the Mayan people so after reading your slide I just had to google them. They seriously turned chocolate into art? WOW!! :O

    Keep up the great work!

  2. Hi Avalon, Mrs Collins from Manaiakalani again commenting on blogs over term break. Well done on posting and participating in the SLJ this year. I really like the DLO you shared about celebrating diversity and I learnt something new too! Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

  3. Hi Avalon! This is a really fantastic presentation! It has a lot of interesting facts and pictures, informing us on these indigenous communities. I was really intrigued by number 4 about Ainu people only having a handful of native speakers. I think that is really absorbing...Which is your favorite fact? Great work!

  4. Hello Avalon!,
Wow! What great and interesting facts you have about the Maya people and the Ainu people. I have really enjoyed reading your presentation about these indigenous communities. One of my favourite facts is how the Maya people turned chocolate into an art form. Which of these indigenous communities was most interesting to you?

    Well Done!

  5. Morena Avalon! It’s Olive here! How’s your morning going? Can happily report that Auckland winds are minimal today - those palm trees are not swinging crazily yet! How’s the weather up in Northland? Hopefully better than down here!

What a thoroughly interesting post! I really enjoyed reading it! I wasn’t really aware about the Indigenous people of Japan, or the Mexican State of Chiapas. Thank you for taking the time to provide such an engaging, detailed blog post! Ka pai for your effort!

Have you read much about Aboriginal people? They have a unique “dot - like” style of painting, unique to Aboriginal culture. Pretty groovy - just like the Mayan people with chocolate! I really enjoy painting, especially on fabrics such as jeans.

    Keep up the great blogging!

    Ngā mihi,
    Olive

  6. Hi Avalon,
I liked how you found some interesting facts, like how the Mayan people can speak 30 languages, and that the Ainu have been around for many, many years. I also liked how you said that you enjoyed this activity because of the opportunity to learn about new countries and places you've never heard of before. Would you want to join one of those communities?
