Foodprint

This week we had Michal Garvey from a business called Foodprint come and talk to us about food waste and how they made foodprint that provides food at lower prices instead of wasting it. Foodprint is a app that is a social enterprise that helps people and the planet to be aware of the waste we are creating because 1.3 billion tones of food is wasted then ends up in land fills. Foodprint is a environmental friendly place for all people to come and get low prices for food so that they aren't wasted. Did you know that Overproduction means 1/3 of food that is produced is wasted every year which is 1.3 billion tonnes of food ? In NZ 20 million loaves of bread are wasted a year think about the time and efforts that are but into making all of the loaves like trying to have all resources. She also talked to us about Naming a business is really hard and even she found it hard to find a name for her own business she came up with the name Foodprint because her friend said it one day when they were out for dinner. We learnt some much from Michal and know how much food waste matters.

Manaiakalani Film Festival

This week were went to the 12th Manaiakalani Film Festival. The Manaiakalani Film Festival is a place for all students and school's to create videos that teach and help other students at school's. We first went and got our partners from room 6 and 7 my parent was Aria she was really sweet and nice we looked after these partners for the whole day while we were out at Sylvia park Moives which was the place where all the films that schools made our shown on the big screen. We sat next too our partners on the bus and looked after them we got there and held there hands and made our way to the movies we got there and we picked a sit for our partners and we year 7 and 8s got to sit on the vip sits which were really nice too sit on me, Mele, Angela and Maritea all sat on one chair it was okay because the chairs were really big and they could rise up. My favorite flim was the Never give up by Glen Taylor school : Room 13 l enjoyed watching this flim because it taught us to never give up on anything and face your challenges.   

Financial Literacy

Today for Math we were learning about Financial Literacy. This means making careful and sensible choices with your money. We started with understand the meaning of what Financial Literacy then we wrote the description which was where we had to write down what we had to sell, money in which was the price of the item you had to sell, money out which is the amount of money you would lose and the balance which was the total of everything. I was playing with Angela and we were adding up our balances at the end we found that Angela made the most money but had a big amount so that meant that she overdraft she didn't make a profit. l made 108 dollars and taking away 70 dollars for rent l ended up with 38 dollars. 

Tech

This week for Tech we were following our instruction papers to see where we left off from last week. l first got all my wood and things to make my piano l started  measuring my two pieces of wood so l could have two joints on both woods then l used the sore to cut down to the half line. l then moved on and started using a mallet to hit onto the chisel so that l could cut threw the half way line all the way threw to the other side. l had another wood which would go in the middle and join both of the woods together. That's what l did this week and hope to finish most of the piano next week. 

Important Values

What are quartiles how could we solve or use them. I am going to talk about these topic today Respect, Kindness and Attitude. Quartiles are things that help us solve problems for example if someone wasn’t allowed to eat meat or doesn’t believe in something then i would be respectful and eat what they eat and not force them to eat something that they don't really want or can’t have.



Respect means showing someone that you are friendly and giving them the same amount of respect in return. Respect is important because for example if someone is different from you then you have to show respect by not being rude to them about themselves just be nice and kind. Respect isn’t that hard at all you have to do is show them the same amount of respect you would want from them.



Attitude is the most important one because it’s hard showing this all the time if you are in a bad mood or you are just having a bad day overall. An example of attitude is if your friend is mad at someone then you could help to calm them down and not have a attuide against them for making bad decisions how you can Solve this is by telling them it’s ok or tell someone. Giving attitude to someone who hasn’t done anything towards u isn’t such a good idea and if they are having a great day attitude towards them just is in kind because you are just going to yell and shout at them for nothing a way to solve this is to just forget about that person and move on with your day or if doesn’t work then tell someone about what’s happening.




Kindness is Being friendly to someone by helping them or just being their friend if they can’t find anyone. Showing kindness everyday is hard and easy because sometimes you can’t control what you say. Kindness is being generous to others for example if someone doesn’t have lunch then you can give some of your food to them or they could tell the offices that they don’t have food. Being generous is showing kindness because it shows that you care about others and you don’t care about someone doesn’t food because you can just give them some of your food.



Respect is showing the same amount of respect you would want from someone else and being nice to others. Attitude is making sure you stay in control of yourself and don’t talk back to an elder's. Kindness is being friendly, generous and considerate of others that are different to you and your family. I have talked and hope you have learned about these three different quartiles l have talked about in my Explanation.

This week we had our first practice for our writing sample. I was writing about some about  important values like respect,kindness and Attitude .Respect is showing the same amount of respect to someone else and getting it back. Attitude is important Tolerance is sharing an idea or problem and respecting and accepting their opinion or problem. I think next time I should work on my punctuation and interesting words.

My New College

My New College 

I came across a lot of colleges this year but I chose to go Edge water. Edge water has a wide range of subjects that help and interest us students so we know that we are supported and in a safe environment. I felt like it was the best one to choose though there were other colleges. I went to the year 9 orientation for 2020 at edge water and ever since then I always knew this was the college for me.




I always knew this was the college for me ever since I attended the year 9 orientation. The principal Louise Addison is kind and funny when l meant and Edge water focuses on safety, being supportive and having a happy learning environment provided . Edge water is really inspiring and welcoming they focus on getting students far in life so we can get high levels in all academics. The reason I chose Edge water was because they have a wide range of subjects like Languages which l want to learn next year.




The range of subjects that they have l look forward to learning about next year. Edge water school leaders were outgoing and spoke confidently things that l may need to do next year. The most things i am excited about are the sports, music, and english because these three things look awesome to do. l think that my college is going to be awesome because l have seen and heard from some people that Edge water is the right place to come if you are looking for a whole range of subjects, sports and learning. I will continue to work harder, show more sportsmanship, be respectful and kind to others when l come and I am proud that l am going to Edge water next year.




I am proud to say that l am going to Edge water for 2020. I am really happy about my decision making cause l know i will be safe, supported and get high marks on each subject. When l go Edge water l will take all the learning from my current school which is Panmure bridge school to my new college and l will continue to be more outgoing and not shy in front of people. When l play sports l will show sportsmanship and be respectful to all teachers and students. I am excited for next year to check out the amazingly wide range of subjects and kind, supportive students and staff that are at Edge water.

Phonics

Today i was going to be riding my horse down the beach. Before I ever got a horse l had to learn about horses. ‘’Did you know that l am called a jockey when i ride a horse?”. Horses have 205 bones inside of them. I also had to learn about clocks so I would know how many hours l have until i have to come back after riding. Everyday i would check the clock before l left. I like the clock because it goes tik tok. I put my socks on and other gear and headed out. l took the lock off the barn and went in and rode.

Today we did phonics with Mrs Linda first we found as many words as we could that had ock inside of them. Then we used our dictionary's and found what the meaning of clockwise, crockery and flock were. We then wrote our paragraph with five different words with ock inside of them. After that we added the missing word inside of the sentences. We finished our paragraphs and asked Mrs Linda to check them my paragraph is about horses and clocks. We then did inference on non-fiction and fiction paragraph to help us be more confident when answering questions. We used question dices to help us answer questions and be more
