Yusra Mardini
Yusra Mardini is a Syrian swimmer currently living in Berlin Germany
did you know that she was a member of the Refugee Olympic Athletes
Team? She competed under the Olympic flag at the 2016 Summer
Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Let’s start with the story well Tusra and
her elder sister fled Syrian war and set off on a perilous journey to find
safety in Europe they then in summer traveled thru lebanon to Turkey
before going to greece. Not long into the sea the boat’s engine failed
and Yusra as professional swimmer she was determined to not let any
of her 20 passengers drown. So her sister and two others jumped into the
waves and swim for three and a half hours around in the open waters dinghy
capsizing, saving the lives of 20 people. A year later Yusra’s swimming got
recognized by the Olympic Committee and became a member of the first
ever Refugee Olympic Team she has came a really far way and is doing
great now.

For this I had to listen to the podcast of Yusra Mardini and tell the amazing
young woman from Syria story. I really enjoyed this activity because
l could retell her amazing story.

Greetings Avalon! Well done on this summary about Yursa Mardini. I didn't know about her until now, but her story amazes me. That's mind-blowing she risked her own life for those 20 passengers, even though she was only 18 herself. What did you first think when you read about her? Nice job!

ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing story right?! I cannot imagine what Yusra must have gone through to get to where she is now. It just goes to show that many successful people did not have easy paths to their success. Did you know that there is a movie being made about her? I would love to watch it! If you were to take part in the Olympic games, what sport or event would you choose to compete in?
I really liked the way that you summarised your sentences however By adding some bright colours or a few pictures of the food items to your blog post I think it would really catch people’s attention. ReplyDeleteI liked how you said Yusra was determined not to let any of the other passengers drown, so she and some other people jumped out of the boat and made sure that it didn't capsize. Do you think that you could do what she and the other passengers did?
