Activity 2: Leading by Example
Today i did activity 2 week 2 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this i was to describe your a random act of kindness that i did. What did you do? How did the person react? How did it make you feel? I talked about how l helped homeless people in Auckland City. I think this is massive problem in New Zealand because when l went i saw a lot of people that were sleeping outside of shops and there blankets to keep them warm were usually cardboard or a lot of blankets.

Activity 2: Celebrating Diversity
Today l was doing activity day 4 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this i was to become more familiar with some of these amazing indigenous communities. How i did this was picking out of the 5 different links they gave learn about the 5 different groups, countries and ancestors so that i could learn about them before i even made a DLO. After i finished reading these i was to tell you the names of the two groups that you have chose and then tell you at least two interesting facts about each group that i found out. I decided to do the Mayan people because l have never heard of them and they really looked interesting to learn about. Also l chose the Ainu People because they also looked very interesting to learn about cause i hardly know that much about them. I enjoyed this activity because l could found about new countries and place i have never heard of before.

For this activity we were to consider the problem that black men and women faced in America at this time and describe the problem that was happening. What did Rosa Parks do about the problem? How did other people react? I have talked about Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and the problem of black and white people. I really enjoyed learning about this problem that today we don’t have because they changed all of that by simple act of kindness.
Week 2 | Day 1 | Activity 2
Working Out Since Jessa was born in 1985 and received her award in 2010, we first work out how many we have to add to 1985 to get to 2010, so 1985 + 5 = 1990. After we add 1990 + 10 = 2000. Finally 2000+ 10 = 2010, which means Jessa was 25 years when she got her award.
Now we have to solve the months. Since she was born on April and got her award on July we work how many we get from April to July. So May, June and July, which is 3. This means Jessa was 3 months when she got her award.
Finally we figure out the days. So Jessa was born on the 7th and received her award on the 9th. So we add up until we get from 7 to 9. 7 + 2 = 9, which means Jessa got her award when she was 2 days. Then the answer i got was 25 years, 3 months and 2 days since Jessa got her award.
Today I did for day 1 activity 2 of week 2 for the SLJ. For this we had to use our maths to solve a question. For this activity we were to calculate how old in years, months and days Dr Jessa Rogers was when she won the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award. Dr. When l working this out my answer for this question was 25 years, 3 months and 2 days since Jessa got her award. This was fun to do because i could work on my maths to slove this question.

and also add a photograph of something we are doing to save the planet. I added a photo of myself picking up
rubbish because i think that is a way l can help our environment. I really enjoyed doing this activity because i
could learn more about what is happening around the planet, climate change and the 16 year old girl who is from
Sweden called Greta Thunberg. She believed that governments and powerful people weren't taking climate change
seriously as they should have been. So in 2018 she began protesting outside the Swedish government buildings
every Friday instead of going to school.I think this a great idea that she is worried and is focused on climate change.

Auckland Harbour Bridge
This week fro Inquiry we were making a presentaion about the Auckland Harbour Bridge. I learnt that General Lord Cobham came to perform the ceremony. The Navy was sent to the harbour bridge to provide the guard of honour. The prime minister had given a well paid tribute to the men that had built this. General Lord Cobham pulled the tozel and the harbour bridge was open. Did you know that they wanted a bridge so they asked government if they could build a bridge from Auckland city two the North sore. The government said no because it would take to long and would b e to much money. So they asked one more time and the government said you can make a bridge put you have to pay for all the material so they made a plan and gave it to the government and he said put you still have to pay for all the things and material. It costed 6 million to pay for all the materials like steel and more. The bridge is made out of truss which are triangles and lattice girders these are long tunnels connected together by triangles. They had to pay a toll which was 20c each time you went by.

Market Day
This week for inquiry we focused on Enterprise and Economics. Panmure bridge held a market day which meant each class was able to sell their own items. As a class we all decided to hand make rainbow crayons. Rainbow crayons because not only did the colurs attract our buyers, but we priced it right at $1. Our economic success was great, because we used recycled broken crayons, we were gifted the moulds and there were no labour costs. In total our gross profit was $96.00, but the net profit was $88.00.

Weekly Grocery Shopping
In Math, we were given a collaborative group challenge to complete for the week. We were to imagine that we had a budget of $200 to spend on weekly shopping for our ‘family’. The amount of people in our family would be the same amount of people in the group. In this case there were 6 for Avalon, Fui, Te Pounamu, Nyjah, Joel, and myself. We had to choose a supermarket site to look for groceries online, and make sure we bought enough proper food fit for 6 people. We chose Pak n Save because we were all familiar with that market. We started off by creating our breakfast, lunch and dinner menu for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was also decided that every group could have one fast food or takeaway dinner. We chose Burger King which we spent $30 on by getting everyone a stunner meal. After that we started writing down the list of ingredients and items of what we needed to make each meal. With somethings we found it was easier to buy it pre-made like waffles, spring rolls, garlic bread, pizza and etc because if we didn't that would mean more ingredients to buy money and more money would be spent. As we went along writing the prices, we were adding them up. We decided to round the cents because otherwise it would be too hard and take longer to calculate. We were told to buy at least one bathroom or cleaning household item that we might need. For us it was bar of soap and a packet of sponges. Sometimes when we were trying to stay in budget, prices would go over too much and sometimes only by a little bit. After taking out some things we really didn't need, and getting good quality for good price we were sure we had it. As we finally totalled up the prices we found we could get maybe 2 or 3 more items but we decided not to. In the end our total price was $184!

Athletics
This week we had Athletics day we all dressed in our house color and enjoyed working together in our group. l was in yellow team with Nyjah, Nevaeh, Jonathan, Giovanni and Angela. We all came in our color and tried to work as a team to win first place. The first activity we did was throwing the Frisbee in side of the hop and at the end we had to see how much we had all together. The next activity we did was rob the nest. What we needed to do was get as many balls in the our circle they was also one person that had a pip on that person could tag anyone from other teams. The next activity we played was high jump for this activity we had to go in a line and try and jump the fairest and then cone it. After that activity we did the sponge race for this we had to line up in our groups and try and fill up the bucket with water we had to go under a pole jump over a rope and put our sponge in the water and run back with it. After that we played shot put we had to throw the ball with our shot skills. Then after that we moved onto discus there were 3 different kinds of spots to throw the hop over and they were point 1, 3 and 5 we tried to stick with 1, 3 because it would be easier for use and because at the end of the game we won with 57 points.
