Star dome
Last Night the year 8 students went to the Star dome to go and see the Planets, Different models, Yuri Gagarin and more. We went as a class to set in the seats at the star dome and learn more about the topic of space. Tobias from star dome talked to us while we were looking up into the sky he told us about Jupiter one fact that l found interesting that he told us was that it has 67 moons around it and there are four main ones that are the close to Jupiter. Another planet that he told us about was Saturn did you know that Saturn rings are made up of ice rocks and a interesting fact that l found that was interesting was it has 62 moons that are around it. After we finished with looking up at the sky we saw models of Yuri Gagarin landing it was made up of Lego most of the modes we made up of Lego it was really interesting to see that different models that were made and writing that talked about the different space crafts. I really looking and learning about the starts and the meaning and the different planet.

Information Report
Information Report
Can Penguins fly well Penguins can't fly because they have flippers they use their flippers to help them swim under the water and catch food for their little Penguins. Most Penguins live in the southern hemisphere because it is 90 degrees their and is nice and cold for them when baby penguins are born the father takes care of it so that the mother can go searching for food they take turns looking after the baby penguins well going off and looking for food.Penguins are really cute they have a dark color on the top and light underneath. These colors help them a lot when looking for food because it helps them blend in with the sea salt water which is a dark blue black color. Little penguins are 13 inches in height and 33 centimeters. Emperor penguins are four feet tail. Do you know why penguins don't live in the North Pole well because it is to hot for them. Penguins have thick layers of sick that what helps them stay warm in the cold that is why most penguins never get cold this is called a romper fat that helps them a lot.
Penguins are carnivores this means that they feed on other animals around them. Most Penguins have to go and find their own under the salty waters the foods that they find are Krill, fish and squid those are the three types of mostly eaten food they find and eat. Females go and find the foods for her male and little one. Sea water did you that penguins drink the salt water this is what they drink. Although they eat food they can't taste it.
Most Penguins live in Antarctic because it is really cold there and icy. Another mostly known place that they live at is the Southern Hemisphere there is a lot of sea life over there they live on icebergs which are big ice cubes and hard ice. You can see that penguins live in really cold places which are up to 90 degrees. How do they survive well have feathers and thick layers of skin to help them stay warm and not freeze. There is a lot of salty waters around them that's how they get food.
Have you found out a lot of things about penguins well here of some facts that l found interesting about penguins. Penguins never cry and open their eyes underwater. Penguins eat a range of fish that they found. Penguins spend most of their time in the seas at the daytime to found food. The most interesting facts that found interesting was that penguins can't fly because they have flippers l thought that they could fly put they can´t.
Penguins are really interesting. The most interesting facts that l found interesting was that penguins can't fly because they have flippers l thought that they could fly put they can´t. Have you learnt a lot about penguins well here is another interesting for you to know is that they are the fastest swimming bird and they communicate with each other through body language.
This week for writing we have been learning how to write a information report an information report includes a
something . We have been looking at information behind Penguins. Before writing, we used our researching skills to
find facts about a species of Penguins. The acronym that we use is called TIPS. title, introduction, paragraphs,
and summary. We use present tense, technical words, nouns, subheadings, when we write our information reports.
I have written a information report about Penguins, giving interesting facts and information about their family name.
Day and Night
This week in inquiry we have been learning about the solar system l was working with Elaario on this DLO and we created a screen castify to tell many people about Day and Night. Did you know that it takes 24 hours to complete an rotation. In this DLO you can see some drawing that we have done to explain our learning. We have the sun, Day and Night earth, Northern hemisphere and Southern hemisphere. I really liked how we worked together to make this screen castify.

Laika Summary
Today we used our skimming and scanning skills to find the information and detail we needed to write a summary. Skimming like a low flying plane. You look over the information once, (this should take about about 3 - 5 seconds). Scanning is like a helicopter, you find what it is looking for and then hover over until the information has been found. To practice these skills we created a DLO that summaries Laika's journey in Sputnik 2.

Solar System
This week for inquiry we created a DLO about the Solar systems.
First we wrote all of our facts done on our DLO on each sidle we added in
images that showed the planets we were talking about so people would know
what they looked like. Then we created this screencastify to people and tell
others about the different planets. I was working with Elaario to get this complete
we worked really well together.

First up
Today we read a book called First up. It's about a man who went up into space to orbit around the earth. The man in this story is called Yuri Gagarin and he was the first man in space inside of the Vostok 1 to orbit around the earth. Yuri Gagarin was brave to go into space when he was in space the wires malfunctioned and almost pulled the ejection lever and then the wire cables snapped and the rocket stopped working then he survived because he pulled the ejection lever and landed on the sand with the rocket. This was me and Jay den summary that we cam up with Yuri Gagarin was a soviet union which is another name for russian. On the 12th of April 1961 he went into space on the Vostok 1. He went into space so he could orbit the earth.

This week we created a Procedural Planning Frame on How to make a paper airplane. We created a set of instructions so students in our class could test them out to see if our instructions really worked. l first started off with the title which was How to make a paper airplane. Then l wrote what you will need to make a paper airplane. l started with all the instructions that people needed to make a paper airplane. l took photos of every step so people could kind of a idea of what to do.
Sputnik 1, 2, 3
This week we learnt about sputnik 1, 2, 3. The first sidle talks about the first ever satellite to launch up to space sputnik 1 was a satellite that launched in 1957 and orbited the communicates to the earth and develops phone calls, TV shows and the internet. Sputnik 2 was the 2nd spacecraft to be launched into space and was launched on the 3rd of November 1957. Sputnik 3 launched May 15 1958 and was the satellite launched by the soviet union on that year. The next sidle talks about the Timeline of each sputnik and has images of what each sputnik looks like. Explanation of satellite and of how many have me launched threw out these years. This sidle talks about the 5 WÅ› and H this sidle tells us about when, where, why, How and What. The last sidle talks about the definition of words which are the words that we thought that were hard and needed to define.
Kiwi Can
This week at Kiwi Can our topic for this term is honest and our theme was integrity. Integrity is doing the write thing when no one is looking an example of Integrity is if you seen someone drop there wallet on the ground you can own up and give it back. The topic for this term is honest an example of honest is if you have done something bad like stealing you can go tell the true by taking the stuff back and telling the owner of the shop. Something l found interesting in the learning was doing role plays to show what Integrity and honest was to us.

Place Value Partitioning
This DLO shows how l used the strategy of place value Partitioning solve addition problems. During our math lesson we practiced using this strategy with number and word questions. When l l was answering the word questions l had to look for the math so that l knew what numbers to work with. My screencastify shows the strategy l used. The more l used this strategy the easier it got.

Main ideas
Today for reading Chavda, Joel, Sakina, Milana and Me worked together to find the main ideas in this story. First thing we did was found all the important ideas for this we looked inside the text which was called space race we found the most important ideas. Then we picked 4 very important ideas from all of our important our ideas. After this we picked as a group 3 vital ideas that told people the main idea of the story. I think we worked well together as a group of 5 because we found all the main idea really easy by reading the text together as a group one thing that l learnt was that the Russian union sent the first dog into space named Laika.
